Ford Transit Custom for a client from the United States

A modular fit-out made to individual order - a project completed remotely for a client from the skydiving industry in Florida. The client wanted the van to look professional rather than like a camper, as he often travelled around Europe running skydiving training courses.

Throughout the project we stayed in constant contact with the client, also remotely, which allowed him to share feedback and request changes as the work progressed and to fit the conversion perfectly to his expectations.

Materials and construction

The entire van was insulated with a bitumen mat with aluminium foil. We used premium materials: 12 mm anti-slip hexa plywood and 6.5 mm double-sided laminated plywood. All panels are waterproof, durable, damage-resistant and easy to keep clean. The fit-out was designed so that parachutes fit under the bed - the perfectly matched dimensions ensure convenient access and safe storage of the equipment.

Functional fit-out

The bulkhead is finished with technical felt, which effectively improves acoustic comfort inside the vehicle.

The remaining elements, namely the ceiling and the rear and side panels, are covered with high-quality upholstery fabric, giving the whole interior an attractive and cohesive look.

The ceiling features modern LED lighting and a Madovan roof window with full blackout function and integrated lighting, which further improves comfort of use.

• Airline rails on the ceiling for securing boards.

Installations

The roof carries a Lumiax FLEX 180W solar panel with an internal control panel. The vehicle is equipped with a 230V electrical system, sockets and USB ports. Heating is provided by the Webasto MultiControl system with a control panel inside the vehicle.

Kitchen area and storage

The kitchen panel is integrated with a shower and includes tanks for fresh and waste water. The rear door carries a fold-out table, and a Dometic fridge is installed under the seat. The fit-out includes a fold-out bed with storage and an extensive cargo area: shelves, cabinets and compartments made of plywood. In addition, cargo nets are fitted by the bed and on the rear doors.

Airline mounting system

The camper conversion is equipped with the Airline system, which allows stable load securing. Rails are mounted both on the ceiling and on the shelving units, enabling flexible placement of luggage and sports equipment.

This project shows that even a compact van can be turned into a fully functional and durable camper. What's more, the fit-out is budget-friendly, while still being neatly executed and well thought out.
